Krita - Optional Extensions
These are optional for those who have extra time. You may complete any or all of these.
Extension A - Create a Reflection in Water
- Either import an image or draw something of your own.
- Duplicate the layer that your image is on (if you used multiple layers to draw your image, you'll need to flatten it first)
- Rename the layers something like
OriginalandRelfection - Use the transform tool to horizontally flip the reflection layer
- Use the move tool to move the reflection layer below the original layer
Here is a video demonstrating the above steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-nRzLi9TF8
Next, we'll make some updates to the reflection layer by trying out some filters. This is just a guideline - feel free to play around with other filters too.
- Make sure you have your reflection layer selected
- From the top menu bar, choose Filter --> Blur, then choose one of the blur modes to try out. Experiment with the controls in the dialog box that appears to create a blur of your liking.
- Next, adjust the colours slighly of the reflection. Making it a little darker can be effective, but feel free to experiment.
A couple filters you might want to try:
- Filter --> Adjust --> HSV Adjustment
- Filter --> Adjust --> Burn
- You could also try using the water stamp to add some ripples (it is the last brush in the list). Try making it gray, with a fairly high opacity to make it subtle

Extension B - Filter Masks
This extension will make most sense if you have already done Extension A, or are familiar with filters. The filters applied in Extension A were destructive, meaning that once the filters were applied, they could no longer be removed or adjusted. We can use masks to apply filters non-destructively.
- Import an image into a new Krita document, or draw something of your own.
- Right click on the layer, then choose Add --> Add Filter Mask
- Choose a filter - for example, a blur
The mask will appear slightly indented below your layer in the layer docker. You can enable or disable the visibility of the mask to get a better sense of its effect. You can also draw on the mask in black and white. Black pixels on the mask disable the mask's effects, while white pixels enable its effects. You can draw different shades of gray to partially apply the mask's effects. Drawing a gradient on a mask can produce some nice effects.
Try out a couple different masks with different filters.

Extension C - Bezier Curves
If you're interested in trying to get better at your Bezier curves, try out this game: https://bezier.method.ac/
If you get good at it, call me over and show me!
Thank you to one of your classmates for showing me this!
