A3 - The Particle Editor
Assignment CANCELLED
The version of GameMaker we have installed in the lab does not include Particle Systems. Therefore, this assignment is cancelled and remains posted for informational purposes only.
Please note - if you're interested in trying this out, you can download GameMaker for free at home.
This video provides a good introduction to the particle editor. You don't need to watch the whole thing - after you've got the general idea, you'll probably prefer just to tinker with it. I'll also go through this in class.
Quick Summary
-
To create a particle system, right-click the
Particle Systemsfolder in the asset browser and create a new particle system. -
Next, experiment with the options in the left sidebar to customize your particle system. You may also find it useful to resize the emitter box right inside the preview pane. More information about each of the options can be found here.
-
In the asset browser, rename your particle system to something meaningful.
-
In your room, drag your particle system to a location of your choice. You will be prompted to create a new asset layer in your room, which is where the particle system lives.
-
As a final touch, consider adding a background layer to your room. You will need to import an image as a sprite, then choose that sprite as the background.
Your Task
Create 2-3 particle systems, and add them to rooms. Add an appropriate background layer to each room.
This video shows a couple examples of the type of thing I'm looking for.
