Final Project - Tutorial Creation

Weight: 10% of final grade

Overview

You will create a clear, accurate tutorial teaching a computer technology concept learned in class, demonstrating both technical understanding and communication skills.

Final Product Options (student choice):

  • Slideshow with narration or speaker notes
  • Screencast or instructional video
  • Interactive document or mini-website
  • Step-by-step written guide with images
  • Your own idea - please run it by me

Topic Ideas

These are some ideas, but I would be fine with basically anything related to the course:

  • Basic electronics concepts - voltage vs current, circuits, analog vs digital signals, etc
  • Connecting either audio or lighting equipment
  • A programming concept, in either Python, C, Assembly, Scratch or HTML
  • Digital logic and logic gates
  • Operating systems - you could focus on either Windows, Linux, or a concept within these
  • Robot programming
  • PC Hardware

With respect to length, aim for something that could be presented/learned in roughly 10 minutes.

Project Structure and Checkpoints

Phase 1: Topic Selection & Audience Definition

Submit/Answer:

  1. Chosen topic
  2. Intended audience (e.g., “Grade 9 student with no prior knowledge”)
  3. Why this topic matters / where it’s used
  4. What does your audience already know?
  5. What will they be able to do after your tutorial?

Phase 2: Concept Breakdown (Thinking Stage)

Submit:

  • A concept map or outline showing:
    • Main idea
    • Sub-concepts
  • Key vocabulary (what terms/definitions should your audience learn?)

Format Options:

  • Concept map (web diagram)
  • Bullet outline
  • Flowchart

Phase 3: Tutorial Planning (Storyboard / Script Draft)

Submit:

  • For slides/videos:

    • Slide-by-slide or scene-by-scene plan
    • What will be shown vs. what will be explained
  • For written guides:

    • Section headings
    • Step sequence
    • Planned screenshots or visuals

Phase 4: Finished Product

Submit the polished tutorial in your chosen format.
