A2 - Building the Half Adder

Build a half adder in Tinkercad. Use similar strategies as you did in assignment #1. Paricularly,

  • The inputs should be controlled by slide switches
  • The outputs should be LEDs

For reference, here are images of the half adder circuit, as well as the data sheets for the AND and XOR chips:

Extension Idea #1

Try to build the circuit on the project board.

Extension Idea #2

In Tinkercad, copy your half adder circuit, then modify it so that instead of the output being displayed in binary using LEDs, it is displayed in decimal on a 7 segment display. It would look something like this (I erased the parts that would give away the answer!).

To learn how the 7 segment display and the CD4511 chips work, see this page:

  • CD4511
  • 7 Segment Display - In Tinkercad, in the options for this component, under the Common option, choose Cathode. The middle bottom pin of the 7 segment display should be connected to ground via a 500 ohm resister, and the middle top pin can remain disconnected.
