Step 1 - Topic Choices

You can select off of the following list. If you have a topic you would like to present about which is not on this list, please speak to me as we may be able to make it work. If you are also in my programming class this semester, you should select a different topic for this presentation.

Topics closely releated to our curriculum

(I'd like to try to get all of these covered)

  • Environment Impact of Computers - Energy use, disposal of electronics
  • Health Impact of Computers - Ergonomics, lack of physical activity, mental health
  • Security - Malware (viruses, ransomeware, etc), hacking, passwords
  • Software Licensing - Differences between commercial and open source software, advantages/disadvantages, how open source is developed via worldwide virtual collaboration (eg GitHub)
  • Postsecondary and Career Opportunities - What are options after high school, how much can you earn in computing fields

Other topic ideas

  • Artificial Intelligence - Some of the latest developments, science fiction vs reality, how it works
  • Identity Theft and Online Scams
  • Social Media - Cyberbullying, dangerous "challenges", in-person isolation, spread of misinformation
  • Implications of Video Gaming - in-person isolation, addiction, financial (eg - in-game purchases including those bordering on gambling)

I'd like to have a maximum of two groups on a single topic (and ideally only one) so we get as much variety as possible.
