Extra Time Activities

To maximize your mark in this class, you should be using any extra class time you have enhancing your skills. The activities in the first section will go the furthest in terms of improving your mark, but those in the second section (dealing more with computers in general) are also worthwhile.

Most relevant to the course

  • Use your own creativity to extend or enhance any assignments you've recently completed.
  • Use your own creativity to create something new with the skills you've learned so far in the course.
  • Work ahead in the Linux unit (will be posted little by little)
  • Use the Internet (either text or video) to learn something new related to computers and keep a brief log of what you've learned, using this file as a template if you would like. Here are a few YouTube channels you chould check out to get you started.
    • Ask Leo! - goes over many general computer issues in very simple terms
    • Techquickie - various short computer and general tech videos
    • ExplainingComputers - some of these videos are pretty advanced - look for something that interests you that you think you'll understand.

Less relevant to the course

  • Independently learn web development basics using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The w3schools website has pretty good tutorials, but feel free to use other online resources that you can find.
  • Follow these YouTube tutorials to learn Blender, a free and popular 3D modelling application
  • SpeedTypingOnline - Work on your typing skills using the typing tutor
  • 2048 Game - Work on your powers of 2 by playing this (somewhat addictive) puzzle game
