Course Admin

This course assumes you've had some coding experience, and you will have the opportunity to build on those skills. Some programming topics the course will focus on:

  • Review of Python
  • Introduction to JavaScript
  • Creating games using GameMaker Studio
  • Object Oriented Programming
  • Building a GUI based program
  • Algorithms and Data Structures

You will also have the opportunity to research and present on a non-technical topic within the realm of computers that interests you (for those who I've taught previously, you are familiar with this project).

Assessment Information

Some of my policies and procedures

  • Dismissal is at the bell
  • No food/drink in here please, except water
  • I don’t mind you taking the odd break from your work as needed, as long as you are not behind on assignments
  • Lates - If you arrive after I’ve taken attendance, you must take a late slip from the front of the room and submit it to me so that I don’t forget to - change your attendance status at the end of the period.
  • Leaving the room temporarily (eg, washroom) - Please take the "Out of Class" card from the front of the room and put it at your seat, which will help us facilitate the school's one-at-a-time rule. If the card is not being used, you do not need to ask to leave. If the card is in use and you need to leave urgently, please ask.
  • Leaving class early (eg, appointment) - I need either a note from a parent, or a parent needs to sign you out at the office. If you have neither, I will give you a form to get signed by a parent. Until I receive the form back, your attendance status will be marked as "Unexplained Absence".

To be successful in this course, it is critical to have the self discipline to stay focused on the course during class time, and to not get sidetracked by the multitude of potential distractions offered by technology.
